Hi Magne

I'm so happy your asking all these questions, 'cause I have a simple answer for them:

READ THIS BOOK:"How to build a music website that sells" who's author also created the website:
www.musicpromotiontips.com

Yes, you can publish yourself via iTunes music store and make about 70-90% of the money (talk about a sweet deal) but you'll have to promote it yourself (THIS is where the book comes in!).

One of the things that will blow your mind when you read this LIFE CHANGING book (can't hype it enough) is that you'll realize this:
• Get a record deal and sell 300.000 copies where you may earn 10% AFTER the expences has been paid back to the record company.
• Publish yourself and sell..... 3.000 copies and make 200.000 kr. / 40.000$ !!! - did I just blow your mind? Think about it, I know artists in my own town who sold about that many copies just taking CD's with them on small tours.

The book will tell you about the market for online music, and how to reach that market through your website, how to build it etc.

I haven't thought about record deals since I read "How to build a music website that sells".

I'll say it again READ THIS BOOK !!! - it totally blew away my mind. Nobody understands what the internet can do for their music before they read this one.
Please somebody read it AND come back and help me make everyone read it too !

I'll say this is the bible for my initiative in creating www.SongwriterWorkshop.com !
I was affraid you would be doubtful about reading it, but I can see that you are not.

You are going to flip over backwards when you read it !
Hej Magne

....I just realized something.... :) I wrote this in Danish (bangs head against desk).

I'll be back with the rest, as well as this post, in english.
Hi Magne

Just a quick reply:
iTunes and CD baby does not want "your money", they only want a little % of your customers money. There's a big difference between the two.
One wants your money, so you have to pull it out from your wallet.
The other wants some of your customers money, which means that WHEN you get paid, you pay a little bit of that money to those that made it possible for you to make it.

You can't get iWeb for PC, but you can get Windows for your Mac. Apple started making PC's last year. This means that Apple now makes PC's and have made a version of their operating system that runs on the PC's that they make (and ONLY those that they make).

So you go get a Mac Mini for 3.999- kr. and you got two Intel processors running iWeb, Garabeband, iMovie .....and then you dual boot into windows and your still able to get viruses in your email, spyware in I.E. etc. - so you haven't really lost anything :)

A media player is easy to embed on a page in iWeb, it can even make a podcast for you with one click.

Take care Magne, I'll get back inhere soon, I miss the music stuff, I'm just busy launching two different new businesses:
www.myapplespace.com
and
www.engodfest.dk

Have you been wondering if someone is passing around the LSD when you look at our new crazy layout? :)
Hey Brian,

seems you are pretty hilarious about the book. I´m going to give it a try but i was thinking about going to get a publishing deal whichs sounds much better for me these day than trying to get a label deal concerning low Cd sales etc.

I would like to have some exchange with you all about this topic as i think it´s pretty important for people who call themselves songwriters. I mean, i would gladly write songs for other artists if i had the possibility to sell them or at least have a publisher offer them for me :-)
Yes, this book taught me a lot about making websites ! It also taught me a lot that most musicians don't know even today, about their opportunities with music + internet !

Read it !

:)
